MR. FORD GOES TO WASHINGTON — CAREFULLY
Premier DOUG FORD’s Washington swing was supposed to include a reception with U.S. Chamber of Commerce head ROSS PEROT JR. Instead, it was scrapped — reportedly over concerns it could tick off the White House at exactly the wrong moment.
Officially, the event was called off due to “scheduling conflicts.” Unofficially, it’s because Ford has rubbed President DONALD TRUMP the wrong way.
Juicy tidbits from the Globe and Mail: “A source familiar with the reception said the White House expressed concerns about Mr. Ford to Mr. Perot Jr. before the event was cancelled. Another source said the White House had complained to business figures in Washington about the Ontario Premier’s scheduled appearance. Mr. Ford is viewed as a major problem by the Trump administration, the person said.”
