In the battle for public relations supremacy, the Ford government is losing to education workers. But first — word on the street is a general strike is coming to Ontario, and people may not be so opposed to that.
STRIKE SOLIDARITY — Rumours are swirling about the possibility of a mass walkout as many unions join CUPE’s fight against the PCs strike-banning, contract-imposing Bill 28.
Sources confirmed to me that there could be a multi-sector strike on Monday, November 14 — the day the House comes back and Finance Minister PETER BETHLENFALVY tables the Fall Economic Statement (which could feature an even bigger surplus — making it harder to publicly justify the paltry wage proposals the PCs are offering education workers).
With public and private sector unions aligned in their opposition to Bill 28 — which the labour movement sees as an existential threat as it uses the notwithstanding clause to force a contract on the lowest-paid education workers — a mass walkout could …
