The race for Scarborough Southwest is heating up.
Both the Liberals and New Democrats have locked in nomination dates for what’s shaping up to be the most-watched byelection of the summer — and a proxy war for bigger fights to come.
It’s a high-stakes race for both parties in particular, but especially the Grits, who will also pick their new party captain in November.
First, they’ll crown their SSW flag-bearer on May 9 at Birchmount Park Collegiate. It’s a four-way contest between MP and leadership hopeful NATE ERSKINE-SMITH, former candidate QADIRA JACKSON, federal party VP and Domino’s Pizza franchiser AHSANUL HAFIZ and immigration consultant MAHMUDA NASRIN.
The hotly contested Liberal nomination has already seen tensions flare — Erskine-Smith reportedly asked Jackson and Hafiz not-so-subtly to join his team (effectively quitting their own bids perhaps in exchange for another position should he become …
