SWEET STUNT

NDP Leader MARIT STILES served up a cake Wednesday to mark more than 1,000 days since the RCMP launched its investigation into the Greenbelt land swap. Naturally, the puns wrote themselves.

“When it comes to corruption, DOUG FORD takes the cake,” she quipped. “No developer is going to benefit from this carve-up,” she added as she sliced the dessert, complete with “1,000”-shaped candles and frosting that read “Doug: Happy 1,000th Day Under Criminal Investigation.”

The cheeky stunt was meant to keep the now-reversed Greenbelt grab alive — something Ford has insisted isn’t even on the public’s radar anymore (“It doesn’t even show up in our polling.”).

Big picture: Stiles has been contending with an extended summer recess in which Ford has been taking up oxygen by playing Captain Canada and national unifier, perhaps with an eye to rebounding in the post-jet polls. No Question Period or daily media scrums makes it more challenging for Oppo critics to get their message out there, …
