FORD TAKES MORE FLAK OVER JET FLIP-FLOP
“GRAVY PLANE” GROUNDED — Premier DOUG FORD may have read the tea leaves too late on his hot-potato $28.9-million purchase of a private jet that was quickly dubbed the “gravy plane” by critics — but his quick turnaround is getting even more blowback.
Ford’s office initially defended the pricey plane purchase, which was revealed by the Star, saying it was necessary for “more certain, flexible, secure and confidential travel,” especially for a Premier travelling the vast province and stateside to fight tariffs.
Two days later, Ford had caved to public pressure and criticism. “Despite the best of intentions, I have heard and agree that now is not the right time for the expense of a government plane. The province is working with Bombardier and other partners to sell the plane as quickly as possible,” he said in a Sunday statement.
