Premier plays defence

ABOVE THE FOLD
After a relatively quiet week, Premier DOUG FORD took to the podium in North Bay to weigh in on everything from hot-potato changes to regional governance, federal floor-crossers, conservation authorities and more.
On Ottawa’s floor-crossings and by-elections: Ford softened his tone when it comes to his push to give Liberal chief MARK CARNEY (“whatever happens, happens”) but said he’s working “extremely well” with the Prime Minister. As for Carney clinching his majority with floor-crossers, “that’s up to local MPs. “They’re going to have to face their voters when they go back to the polls. But that’s the system that we have.”
On plans for school boards, which Education Minister PAUL CALANDRA is expected to detail next week: Ford ripped into trustees’ questionable spending. “You got to be kidding, waking up at two o’clock in the morning and ordering hamburgers and milkshakes and everything else. Are you serious on the taxpayers money? You know, it’s ridiculous.”
Meanwhile…
