STAN CHO’s hotel expenses have triggered another optics headache for the Ford government. The Minister of Tourism and MPP for Willowdale is under fire for expensing taxpayers more than $16K for hotel stays in Toronto, despite living six kilometres from Queen’s Park. And he’s not the only one.
That’s a no-no under the Legislative Assembly’s rules, which say that MPPs who live within 50 kilometres of Queen’s Park can only charge accommodation in special circumstances, like a snowstorm.
Juicy tidbits from Global News: Cho didn’t start expensing overnight stays until 2023, and then starting racking up increasingly higher bills, including a total of $11,691 in fiscal 2025-26. The reasons for his bookings remain a mystery. Cho initially said he’d personally pay back the charges that didn’t “meet the spirit” of the rules, then pivoted after the story broke, promising to foot the entire tab.
