JONES CALLS OUT HOSPITAL LOBBY — ON THEIR OWN TURF

After laying low this past week, Premier DOUG FORD insists he’s still “in touch with the people” after days of bad-news headlines. But first: Health Minister SYLVIA JONES is hitting back at the Ontario Hospital Association in a speech that left health care CEOs stunned.

Awkward! Folks in the crowd at the OHA’s annual leadership summit say they were taken aback and that there were audible gasps when Jones wrapped up her remarks with a bit of a dig.

Jones had just finished rattling off a list of provincial funding investments — including an extra $1.1 billion in operating funding, which hospital CEOs have said isn’t enough as they dig into reserves and cut staff — when she flipped the script on the OHA.

“You will have to forgive me if I get a bit frustrated,” Jones said toward the end of her speech. “When yesterday, I saw the OHA praising the federal government with a page-and-a-half statement about a $5 billion investment — nationwide, …
