With U.S. President DONALD TRUMP going hard against Canada amid a tariff war, the timing couldn’t be better for Premier DOUG FORD, politically speaking.
Make Ford popular again: Ahead of Thursday’s byelection triple-header, Ford’s poll numbers — which have been sagging this summer amid an expense scandal — have rebounded, with Liaison Strategies pegging the PCs at 39 per cent, ahead of the Grits at 35 per cent, the NDP at 20 per cent, and the Greens at two per cent. The survey was conducted last week when Ford and Trump were going at it hard.
To wit: Trump ranted about Ford being “better known as the less charismatic, intelligent and overall unimpressive brother of the late, great, ROB FORD” while the Premier hit back with, er, colourful language, saying “he can kiss my ass as far as I’m concerned,” adding that Trump is a “loser” and “cocky.”
Ford has also been making the rounds on U.S. media, hitting Trump where it hurts — and where he’ll see the clips.
