EXTREME MAKEOVER, LEG EDITION

First in Observer — Slowly but surely, things are chugging along when it comes to the Legislature’s $1-billion renovation.

The massive project, which would see MPPs and legislative staff at the Pink Palace moved to a temporary location to deal with issues like lead-tainted tap water, asbestos, exposed wiring and a wonky heating system (if you know, you know), was delayed until at least 2027.

Now, things seem to be moving ahead — but the details remain hazy. The latest from the Board of Internal Economy, which is overseeing the revamp along with the Ministry of Infrastructure (having taken over from the now-dissolved Leg Affairs Ministry), is that a Building Condition Assessment is underway.

Back in April, the BOIE, which includes PCs, NDPers and Liberals as recognized parties, green-lit a $174,000-study to assess the state of the building, which was scheduled to take 11 weeks to complete.
