‘FORD IN FREEFALL’, NDP CHOOSES ITS FIGHTER
New Democrats have named their contender in the yet-to-be-called byelection in Scarborough Southwest: FATIMA SHABAN, who beat out two other candidates for the nomination last night.
Shaban will try to hold on to the seat for the NDP after their incumbent deputy leader DOLY BEGUM defected to the federal Liberals, then bested Shaban in that race earlier this month.
Now, she’s hoping for a better result at the provincial level in the byelection that’s expected sometime this summer. “Working families in Scarborough Southwest need a fighter in their corner,” said Shaban, who works with The Salvation Army and organizes with housing advocacy group ACORN.
Before they even picked their flag-bearer, Liberals were throwing shade, pointing out that the NDP were deciding between “losers” — past failed candidates.
